EXPLORATORY WOODWORKING
Prerequisite: None
This course is offered for those students who cannot accommodate a two-hour block (General Woods) into their schedule. It will include basic safety, woodworking terms, listening skills and hands on processes. Projects will be assigned and completed by the student. Students may enroll in General Woods (VE 103) after completing this 1 period, 1/2 credit course.
GENERAL WOODS
Prerequisite: None
This course is intended to provide students with a background in wood technology, shop safety, use and care of hand tools, portable power tools and machines, along with the maintenance, adhesives and clamping, bending and forming wood, fasteners project, design and planning, layout, joinery, and basic house framing. Several projects will be assigned including team projects.
BASIC CABINETRY
Prerequisites: General Woods and General Drafting
This course will cover all aspects of cabinet/furniture construction from design through machine and tool operation to finishing. Students will build one piece of furniture during the course of the class.
BASIC CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY
Prerequisites: General Woods and General Drafting
This course will cover the basics of building construction such as carpentry, plumbing, heating, and electrical wiring using a scale model building to provide hands-on learning. (This class is a prerequisite for Building Trades.)
