Association of Student Artists (ASA)

ASA is a regional organization of art teachers and students. Our mission is to cultivate and recognize visual artist students. The following schools participate in ASA: Kingsford, Iron Mountain, Florence, Norway, Niagara, Pembine, Goodman-Armstrong, and West Iron.

Five times a year, our organization offers workshops to a select group of students. These students are selected by their peers, staff, and community members based on their work submitted to an anonymous vote. The student who wins the vote goes to a workshop. At the workshop we eat lunch, has a short critique about their work, and a visiting artist teaches our students an artistic skill. We have had opportunities to try stained glass, macrame, action painting, etc. This year's student artists are: Kaya Schuyler- November, Alana Schuyler- December, and Cheyenne Ritchie- January.

Each April, ASA has a juried art show. Jurors from local art colleges come and select their favorite pieces. These college representatives sometimes offer scholarships to students based on their work. (Last year, one of our students received an admissions scholarship of $16,000 to Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design based on her submitted work.)

This year's ASA show is April 15th at Kingsford High School. It is open 4-6pm for viewing and the awards ceremony starts at 6pm.
