Covid Testing & Contact Tracing Update

January 20, 2022

Dear Wykon Families & Staff,

This letter is to inform you that effective today, January 20, 2022, West Iron County Schools will have some changes to our Covid testing and contact tracing practices that have been in place this school year.

As for contact tracing, the MDHHS announced that they are discontinuing universal individual level contact tracing. So at this time, WICS will pause our practices of identifying close contacts and giving parents courtesy calls to those who are close contacts.

As for testing, please consult your medical professional for testing options, requirements and/or professional advice. Medical facilities in our area offer testing. Our school nurse may provide rapid testing for students and staff, with a signed waiver on file.

We encourage you to continue to monitor your child daily for any Covid related symptoms; fever, cough, sore throat, headache, etc. and keep them home until they are symptom free, including that they are fever free for at least 24 hours.

As for positive cases, please inform the school office of any positive results confirmed by a healthcare provider or health department professional. We will continue to update our website daily with these confirmed positive cases. We will also follow the current guidelines for a 5 day isolation, and the student/staff member may return on day 6 if symptom free.

If you have any questions, please contact our school nurse, Mrs. Holm at sholm@westiron.org.

These have been some very challenging times in schools, and we hope this is another step forward to returning to normal. We thank you for your cooperation, flexibility, and continued support.

Sincerely,
Kevin Schmutzler, Superintendent
