Michigan Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Administrative Rules Public Summary

The Michigan Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), MCL 15.231-15.246, provides for public access to certain public records, permits the charging of prescribed fees and deposits, and provides remedies and penalties for non-compliance. A person has a right to inspect, copy, or receive copies of certain requested public records, while other public records are exempt from disclosure. West Iron County Public Schools is a public body that must comply with the FOIA.

West Iron County Public Schools has established administrative rules to implement the FOIA effective September 1, 2023. For purposes of these administrative rules, terms have the same meaning as defined in the FOIA. A complete copy of the FOIA is available on the Michigan Legislatures website at www.legislature.mi.gov.

The administrative rules (which include a Detailed Itemization of Fee Amounts Form) are available online (Policy 3501-AG). This link or a physical copy of the administrative rules will be included in each of West Iron County Public Schools FOIA responses.
