Safety & Security Advisory Committee

Dear WICS Families & Staff;

On Wednesday, October 18th, the Board of Education created a subcommittee called the Safety & Security Advisory Committee. We believe the formation of this committee is a terrific first step toward improved communication with our WICS families and the creation of solutions that will provide a collaborative approach to the safety of our students and staff.

The West Iron County Schools “Safety & Security Advisory Committee” will be formed of parents, board members, administration, staff, and local law enforcement. This committee will be formed of up to 12 members, each member will serve for a term of 2 years. They will meet on a monthly basis to discuss objectives and formulate initiatives to improve student safety in our district. They will be responsible for reporting their recommendations to the WICS Board of Education with the purpose of providing direction to the board regarding potential initiatives, programming, and policy building.

The committee members will be announced at the November WICS Board of Education meeting. Those who are not selected to serve as a member of this committee are still encouraged to attend meetings and share their thoughts and concerns. These meetings will be open format and are for the purpose of inviting two-way dialogue with all members of our WICS family and our community.

The WICS Board of Education and administration believe that the collaborative committee approach to addressing student safety will help to further address concerns and develop long-term, meaningful solutions to promote a safe and effective learning environment for all students where everyone feels supported.

Our first meeting will be Wednesday, November 29 from 5:00-6:30 in the MS/HS library. During this meeting we will discuss the purpose, logistics, and initial objectives of this committee. We hope you are able to join us this evening.
