School Safety Threat Parent Update

Dear Wykon Staff & Families,

This morning we received an anonymous tip from the OK2SAY tipline regarding threatening comments made towards West Iron County Schools. Once we received the tip, we quickly took the appropriate safety steps on campus and contacted law enforcement. We are very appreciative of our Iron County Sheriff’s Department for their quick response, investigation, taking the suspect into custody, and ensuring it was safe to return to our normal school operations.

The person accused of making these comments was not in our school, and has been taken into police custody. This case is an open investigation, so no further information will be provided at this time. Again, we have requested continued additional police presence around campus as a precautionary measure.

We are committed to ensure our staff and students' safety. We take these matters very seriously, and the individual involved will be handled accordingly. We sincerely apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused your family.

As stated in previous communication, we truly appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work through these kinds of unfortunate and challenging events. Please rest assured that we will do whatever it takes to protect our Wykon family.

Sincerely,
Kevin Schmutzler, Superintendent
