West Iron County Schools Secures Trademark for School Name & Wykon Logo
October 22, 2025
West Iron County Schools has successfully completed the trademark registration of its iconic Wykon logo and school name, a step that formally protects the identity, legacy, and pride of the Wykon community.
The trademarks were officially registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) this summer, ensuring that the Wykon logo is now legally protected against unauthorized commercial use. This move reflects the district’s commitment to preserving its brand and reinforcing school pride among students, alumni, staff, and the wider community.
“The Wykon logo represents decades of tradition, unity, and excellence in education and athletics,” said Kevin Schmutzler, Superintendent of West Iron County Schools. “Securing a trademark allows us to protect this important symbol and ensure it is used respectfully and in ways that reflect our district’s values.”
West Iron County Schools encourages community members to take pride in the trademarked Wykon logo and celebrate this milestone as a reinforcement of the district’s identity and enduring legacy. Visit https://www.westiron.org/81778_2 for the unique history of the “Wykon.”
The district will now oversee the use of the Wykon logo across apparel, merchandise, digital platforms, and any third-party licensing. Businesses and organizations interested in using the logo will be required to obtain proper authorization through the Board of Education.
